Our Story
Taft’s Flat Rock Maple Farm is a family-owned and operated maple farm built on generations of respect for the woods and the land. We offer small-batch, wood-fired, traditionally made syrup with rich, clean flavor. At the heart of the operation are father and son, Bub and Brad, working side by side to carry on traditions that have shaped our family for decades.
Bub has been tapping trees and making maple syrup most of his life. As a young man, he worked on a local maple farm where payment often came not in wages, but in syrup—a trade that helped spark a lifelong appreciation for the craft. A woodworker by trade, Bub has spent years building log cabins and handcrafted furniture, skills rooted in patience, precision, and a deep understanding of natural materials. That same mindset carries into how he approaches maple syrup, respecting the trees and the process every step of the way.
Brad, Bub’s son, is a metal fabricator by trade, bringing a different but complementary skill set to the farm. While his background is in metalwork, he shares the same love for maple syrup and the process it takes to make it right. Together, father and son work seamlessly, combining traditional knowledge with practical problem-solving. Their skills balance each other, creating an operation built on craftsmanship, efficiency, and attention to detail.
The name Flat Rock Maple Farm comes directly from the land itself. Our woods are filled with large, flat rock formations surrounded by maple trees. Historically, our family harvested flagstone from this land, as it was highly sought after. The name honors both the landscape and the working history tied to it.
Forest stewardship remains central to everything we do. Thoughtful forest management guides how we care for our woods year-round, ensuring healthy growth and long-term sustainability. That same care carries through to our syrup. We are meticulous throughout the entire process, believing the smallest details make the biggest difference. The result is a rich, clean maple flavor that reflects the health of our woods and the pride we take in every batch.
For us, maple syrup is more than a product—it’s a continuation of family tradition. Each bottle represents hard work, respect for the land, and generations of craftsmanship. Around here, we believe the best syrup comes from doing things carefully, responsibly, and one tap at a time.
